1. What is GOIN SafetyNET?
GOIN SafetyNET is the name of our email filtering service. The service is free to all existing and new GOIN customers.

2. What does GOIN SafetyNET filter?
All email that is sent or received using GOIN's mail systems is individually processed by filtering software. In particular, each email message is tested for known viruses and unsolicited junk email, commonly known as spam.

This service also applies to all virtual email servers provided by GOIN to hosting customers.

3. Do I need to enroll in this free service?
No enrollment is necessary! All email accounts provided to you by GOIN are automatically protected by GOIN SafetyNET!

4. What happens when a virus is detected?
When a message arives at our mail server and tests positive for a virus, the offending message is not delivered. Instead, a warning message is sent via email to both the sender and recipient.

The following message is a typical response from GOIN SafetyNET to a sender of a virus:

From: postmaster@getgoin.net
To: user@domain.com
Subject: GOIN SafetyNET WARNING: YOU MAY HAVE A VIRUS!

As a free service to our valued customers, GOIN scans all inbound and outbound email for potential virus threats. As a result of these scans, we've intercepted a message that you sent to one of our customers. This message appears to be infected with a virus that could potentially cause damage to a computer system. The details of this message are:

FROM: user@domain.com
TO: user@getgoin.net
SUBJECT: Subject text
INFECTING VIRUS: W32.Sircam.Worm@mm

GOIN advises you to take immediate action to ensure that your computer system is virus free. Until these steps are taken, we further advise you to disconnect from the Internet and refrain from sending or receiving email messages. For additional information about the GOIN SAFETYNET service or for details regarding your virus removal options, see our frequently asked questions page at http://www.getgoin.net/safetynet.

5. Do I still need to use antivirus software like Norton or McAfee on my computer?
Absolutely! Our antivirus definitions are updated daily, however there is no absolute guarantee that GOIN SafetyNET will catch ALL viruses! In addition, most viruses these days are indeed sent via email but you can still be infected by viruses that are embedded in file downloads from the Internet, floppy disks, CD-ROM's, etc. Therefore, keeping a current version of antivirus software on your computer is critical.

6. What happens when SPAM is detected?
GOIN SafetyNET utilizes two separate systems to detect spam. The primary system tests every incoming email for spam. If spam is identified, the email is rejected and a rejection notice is automatically sent to the sending mail system. This system is automatically provided for all getgoin.net email accounts.

The secondary spam-detecting system provides additional spam filtering for the 'false-positive' email messages that are able to penetrate the primary system. This secondary system is the original spam-detecting portion of GOIN SafetyNET which has been in effect since the original launch of this service.

The secondary system never rejects email based on its findings. Instead, it adds information to the headers allowing you to control your own set of filters. Instructions for setting up the spam WEIGHT system are listed below. This secondary system is a good defense for those who wish to not take any chances of having legitimate mail rejected from the first system. Any user may request that email destined to his or her email account bypass the first spam-detecting system.
